Is God a war monger?

(Intro)

As one tries to develop ones position on a country committing hostility and violence on another it may be helpful to consider Gods position on the subject.

Yes, God did direct Israel to invade the land of Canaan and kill everyone living there. Let’s deal with this right off the bat.

The Bible says God is just; this means all his judgments are fair and right. He commanded the Israelite’s to destroy the nations that occupied Canaan because their sin and depravity had reached the limit of Gods forbearance. The Israelite’s were obediently carrying out the judgment of God on the Canaanite nations.

The Bible says, “it is because of the wickedness of these nations that the Lord your God is driving them out before you,” Deuteronomy 9:4. The nations were wicked and God had endured their sin long enough.

This is not His desire. Jesus said, “Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called sons of God.” See how it ties together? God cannot ignore evil and sin; He must deal with the violator. But those who act as a peacemakers will be called sons of God. Why? Because God is a God of love and wants peace with and among His creation.

What about today?  In Malachi God says, “I, the Lord, do not change.” His morals and principles remain constant throughout the ages. He consistently maintains the principles He held from before creation.

He wants peace with man and is patient to that end; but His restraint from dealing with sin does not last forever.

So the question on the table? Is God directing the hostilities we see happening today or are we witnessing man’s inhumanity toward his fellow man?

I’ve seen no evidence that anyone, in any of the present conflicts taking place today, claiming special guidance from God therefore I must conclude that the suffering and death we see are not justifiable in the eyes of a loving righteous creator.
