## INTRO Today I’m going to show you how to make one of the simplest and best sandwiches around — a classic BLT. That stands for bacon, lettuce, and tomato. It sounds simple, and it is, but a few small details make a big difference. [PAUSE] ## WHAT YOU NEED You’ll need two slices of bread. You’ll need several strips of bacon. You’ll need fresh lettuce. You’ll need a ripe tomato. And you’ll need mayonnaise. You can also add a little salt and black pepper. [PAUSE] ## STEP 1 - COOK THE BACON Start by cooking the bacon until it is as crisp as you like it. Some people like it very crisp. Others prefer it a little softer. Once it is cooked, place it on a paper towel for a minute so some of the extra grease can drain off. [B-ROLL: bacon cooking in a skillet] ## STEP 2 - PREPARE THE TOMATO Next, slice the tomato. Try to make the slices thick enough that you can really taste the tomato, but not so thick that the sandwich becomes difficult to eat. Sprinkle a little salt and pepper on the tomato if you like. [GRAPHIC: sliced tomato] ## STEP 3 - PREPARE THE BREAD Now toast the bread. You do not have to toast it very dark. The goal is simply to give the bread a little structure and crunch. Once the bread is toasted, spread mayonnaise on one side of each slice. [PAUSE] ## STEP 4 - BUILD THE SANDWICH Now it is time to put everything together. Start with one slice of bread. Add the lettuce. Then add the tomato. Next, add the bacon. Place the second slice of bread on top. You can press it together gently, but don’t flatten it. [EMPHASIS] A good BLT should have crunch from the toast and bacon, freshness from the lettuce, and plenty of flavor from the tomato. ## STEP 5 - CUT AND SERVE Cut the sandwich in half. Diagonal is traditional, but that part is entirely up to you. Serve it right away while the bacon is still warm and the lettuce is still crisp. [PAUSE] ## CLOSE And that is all there is to making a classic BLT. Simple ingredients, simple preparation, and a very good sandwich. Thanks for watching.
